If your Mini PC is configured to boot from USB by default, you do not need to connect a keyboard or monitor. Insert the Ubiqon USB installer, turn on the Mini PC, and leave it powered on while installation runs. When the Mini PC automatically shuts down, installation is complete.

  1. Insert the bootable Ubiqon USB installer.
  2. Turn on the Mini PC and wait. Do not unplug the power during installation.
  3. When the Mini PC automatically shuts down, remove the USB installer.
  4. Turn on the Mini PC again. It should boot from its internal drive into Ubiqon.

Requirements

01
Compatible Mini PC

An x86-64 Mini PC. The Ubiqon Mini PC installer is intended for compatible 64-bit Intel/AMD hardware, such as the supported HP t510 setup.

02
USB Flash Drive

Use a reliable USB flash drive with at least 8GB capacity. The drive will be erased when the installer is written.

03
Ubiqon Mini PC ISO

Download the latest available .iso installer from the Ubiqon download folder linked below.

04
Windows PC and USB writing tool

Use a Windows computer and a tool such as balenaEtcher to write the ISO image to the USB drive.

05
Keyboard and monitor (optional)

Not required when the Mini PC boots from the USB installer automatically and completes the unattended installation. Use them only if you need to troubleshoot boot or installation problems.

1. Download the Ubiqon Mini PC ISO

Open the Ubiqon download folder and download the Mini PC ISO file. Make sure you select the Mini PC .iso image, not an Orange Pi .img image.

Download Ubiqon Mini PC ISO
File type: The Mini PC installer uses an .iso file. Do not flash the Orange Pi image to the Mini PC.

2. Create the Bootable USB Installer

Step 1: Insert the USB drive

Connect the USB flash drive to your Windows PC. Back up any files on it before continuing.

Step 2: Download balenaEtcher

Download and install the USB imaging tool from its official website.

Download balenaEtcher

Step 3: Select the ISO file

Open balenaEtcher, choose Flash from file, and select the downloaded Ubiqon Mini PC .iso file.

Step 4: Select the USB drive

Choose the correct USB flash drive as the target.

Warning: Writing the installer erases the selected USB drive. Double-check the target before proceeding.

Step 5: Flash and verify

Click Flash and wait for the writing and verification process to finish. Safely eject the USB drive when complete.

3. Install Ubiqon Automatically

If the Mini PC is configured to boot from USB by default, no keyboard or monitor is needed for a normal installation.

  1. Shut down the Mini PC.
  2. Insert the bootable Ubiqon USB installer.
  3. Turn on the Mini PC. The installer should start automatically.
  4. Leave the Mini PC powered on. Do not remove the USB drive or disconnect power while installation is running.
  5. Wait for the Mini PC to shut down automatically. This indicates that installation has finished.
  6. Remove the USB installer.
  7. Turn on the Mini PC again. It should boot from the internal drive with Ubiqon installed.
Important: This simple process applies when the Mini PC is set to boot from USB by default and the installer completes normally. If it does not shut down automatically or you suspect an error, connect a monitor and keyboard to troubleshoot before assuming installation succeeded.
Data loss: The installer may erase the selected internal drive and its existing operating system and files. Back up important data before installing.

4. First Boot After Installation

After the installer shuts the Mini PC down, remove the USB installer and turn the device on again. Ubiqon should start from the internal drive.

5. Initial Ubiqon Setup

  1. Connect the Mini PC's Ethernet port to the intended network connection.
  2. Allow Ubiqon and its required services time to start.
  3. Access the Ubiqon administration interface using the configured access method for your installation.
  4. Complete the network and deployment settings in the administration interface.
  5. Verify that the Internet connection and required network interfaces are detected.
  6. Configure and test the coin slot or other peripherals, if installed.
Network ports and deployment settings depend on your installation and network layout. Confirm which Ethernet port is WAN and which is LAN before connecting customer access points.

Troubleshooting

Mini PC does not boot from USB

  • Confirm that the ISO was written successfully and verification completed.
  • Try another USB port or a different USB drive.
  • Open the boot menu and explicitly select the USB device.
  • Check BIOS/UEFI settings for USB boot support.

“Unable to find a medium containing a live file system”

  • Shut down and recreate the USB installer from the correct Ubiqon Mini PC ISO.
  • Do not use the Orange Pi system image or a partially copied ISO.
  • Try another USB drive or USB port.
  • If the error persists, stop and report the exact error and ISO filename so the installer image can be checked.

Installation does not complete

  • Record the exact error displayed on screen.
  • Check that the intended internal drive is detected.
  • Do not format or erase another drive as a troubleshooting step unless you have confirmed it is the correct target.

Ubiqon does not start after installation

  • Remove the USB installer and restart the Mini PC.
  • Check that the internal drive is first in the boot order.
